Engineering schools in India seem to produce graduates that lack the qualifications, skills and talents for employment. According to the National Employability Report by the job skills matching platform Aspiring Minds, over 80% of the graduates from engineering institutions in India are unemployable, which was concluded after a survey of 1,500,000 engineering students who graduated in 2015 from over 650 colleges.
Aspiring Minds CTO Varun Aggarwal said that engineering has become the de-facto graduate degree for a large chunk of students in India today, hence it is quintessential that undergraduate programmes evolve to make them more job centric. He also emphasized on improving the education standards to make this happen.

Delhi leads the cities with the most number of employable engineers in India, with Bengaluru and the western part of the country just behind. Kerala and Odisha were also among the most employable states being above the top 25 percentile list, with Punjab and Uttarakhand dropping to the 2nd and 3rd quartile.
The report also revealed that employability for engineers in India knows no gender, for both males and females have almost equal opportunities in the industry.
