Nokia Returns to Electronics Market With a ‘Dumb Phone’

The Nokia 150 has disappointed many.

When HMD Global revealed early in December that it bought the rights to the Nokia name and brand for the next 10 years, consumers expected a grand comeback phone that will make them lose interest in other electronics brands.

But so far with their newest release since February, Nokia has been a disappointment. The Finnish company has also not threatened the phone market – or at least not yet.

The Nokia 150 is so much like a phone from the past. It doesn’t have an app store, a high-powered camera, or a speedy hardware at all. For that, many have called it a ‘dumb phone.’

It is a basic phone that features a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, a built-in FM radio, an MP3 player, a VGA rear camera with LED flash, and a 1020mAh battery.

Running with the standard Nokia operation system Series 30, it supports storage up to 32 GB with a microSD card and file transfer via Bluetooth. If it is any consolation, the Nokia 150 is packed with the classic Snake Xenzia game.

A Nokia 150 will be commercially available for a measly $26 on the first quarter of 2017 in the Asia-Pacific (APAC), India, Middle East and Africa (IMEA) and Europe.

This is only a taste of what is to come from Nokia in the coming year. Reports have leaked that 2017 might just be big for Nokia. The 150 can only be lowering expectations.

Other than producing phones that runs in their OS like the Nokia 150, the company revealed earlier this month that it plans to make devices powered by Google’s Android software.

In the Mobile World Congress in February, one of the most anticipated annual tech events, Nokia might just drop their best comeback smartphone. This news came from an alleged leaked slide from an internal Nokia meeting.

Nokia is also preparing to expand their virtual reality products, wearable devices, and mobile and smart car patents.
