Happy Engineers: How To Make Them Happier At Work

Tired and unhappy with your job? Here are 7 small things you can do to make your workplace happier.

Happy Engineers

Most of us spend almost half of our adult days working. Many consider it a sacrifice- a price you have to pay so that you can provide you and your family’s needs, and so that you can have enough money to buy the things you desire and enjoy our lives.

This attitude isn’t healthy, and it needs to change.

Instead of looking at work as a burden, why not make the workplace your happiness in itself? Why not try to change your thinking into something more positive?

As the Dalai Lama has said, “Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.”

If you’re in an abusive, extremely stressful, or in an unhealthy environment in general, the best move to happiness is to leave that job and find someplace else where you know you’ll enjoy working. However, for the rest of us who just hate having to wake up early in the morning to go to work, here are 7 simple actions that can make our lives happier:

1) Happy Engineers:     Make Feedback a gift

People usually dread feedback and criticism as they equate it to negativity. Instead of thinking it this way, why not think of feedback as something that motivates you to improve on your actions and make yourself better at what you do.

2) Happy Engineers:     Try to have fun at work

The workplace is usually a serious place, but don’t let that stop you from having fun. Bring a popcorn machine to the office! Spend some time bonding and laughing with your coworkers. Relax. Even 15 minutes can make a big difference

3) Happy Engineers:     Be inspired

There’ll always be tough times when we’re unmotivated and uninspired. To counteract this, keep a source of inspiration within reach. Have a photo of your family or lover on your desk. Keep some books in your drawers. Have a sketch of your dream house on your cubicle. Anything to remind us of our purpose.

4) Happy Engineers:     Don’t let anger take over

Don’t let the little things that piss you off get the best of you. Instead, breathe, calm down, and save your anger for significant injustices in which you can take action and make a difference.

5) Happy Engineers:     Spend time with open minded people
