This Question Will Guide You On Deciding What Engineering Job You’re Going To Take Next

"Typically, if we find out about their best day, we can unpack that and really find out what drives them and motivates them."

For most engineers, it’s a dream come true to work on Facebook. Not only are you working for Mark Zuckerberg, you also get to work with some of the best minds on Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, not everyone can get in.

Luckily for us, we still get an idea of what recruiters like to ask applicants during a job interview. We may not be able to work for one of the biggest companies in the world, we still get to practice answering such questions if someone else asks us.

In an interview with Business Insider, Facebook global head of recruiting Miranda Malinowski and VP of people Lori Goler shared the one question they want to ask applicants during an interview. They shared this very simple question: “What are you doing on your best day?”

Kalinowski said,  “Typically, if we find out about their best day, we can unpack that and really find out what drives them and motivates them. Whether it’s meeting with clients, coding, or calculating a spreadsheet, it’s going to be different for everyone. That’s the beauty of bringing all these people together.”

Goler adds, “Step back and reflect on the things you enjoy doing. On your very best day, when you go home and you think to yourself, ‘I have the best job ever,’ what were you doing on that day? What were the actual activities that you engaged in on that day? Those are things you should be looking for in your next opportunity.”
