Tesla Possibly Launching A New Material Recycling Startup

Rumor has it that Tesla’s executives are launching a new company geared towards recycling materials.

Tesla and Space X’s co-founder and CEO Elon Musk has been making headlines recently. This is due to 2 new companies that he just recently started up. The first being the Boring Company (Yes, that’s really its name), which focuses on making an electric semi-trucks. And the second being the brain-hacking Neuralink. Because of this, he has been very busy lately, especially with Space X’s recent accomplishments and Tesla’s latest developments. But even then, there’s a rumor going around that a new company/venture is in the works.

Proof of this is a Security and Exchange Commission filing that reveals Tesla’s $2 million investment in a company called “Redwood Materials”. This was a relatively new firm that no one has heard of yet. This new company doesn’t seem to directly involve Musk himself, but rather, some of Tesla’s executives. They are CTO JB Straubel and Special Projects head Andrew Stevenson, says CB insights in their recent write-up. Also, in the website for Redwood Materials, Straubel and Stevenson are both listed as executives, with Stevenson being the CFO.

The website describes Redwood Materials as a California-based firm that focuses on “advanced technology and process development for materials recycling, re-manufacturing, and reuse.” With that description, it seems looks like Redwood Materials might be Tesla’s entry to the recycling industry, pushing forward their motive to make manufacturing and technology cleaner and greener.

Tesla still hasn’t said anything about Redwood Materials yet, so until then, all we can do is speculate about it and what connections it has to Tesla. It’s very much possible that what we said earlier is truly the case though. Stevenson once mentioned in a speech that “re-thinking the materials supply chain” is an area of innovation for Tesla. Recycling materials could prove to be useful in its effort to make environmentally friendly and affordable vehicles and solar technologies.
