When it comes to fashion, change is inevitable. That is why a startup created a shoe concept that lets you have any design you want and can adapt to whatever your design preferences are with just one pair of sneakers.
Called the ShiftWear sneakers, it is designed with flexible E Ink Color Displays that can be freely customized with images and animations direct from your smartphone or tablet. Thanks to flexible electronics, these new sneakers now have flexible panels that offers an open canvas so your shoes can match any of your attires, moods or season. All you need to do is power the sneakers on and select a design from an app.

The ShiftWear sneakers have E Ink displays that are always on, just like those that are found in e-readers. It contains built-in batteries that are designed to last for 30 days depending on the type of visuals you put. If you choose static images, if would consume not that much power, while animated graphics would drain the batteries much faster. So how is it charged then. The team plans to incorporate wireless charging capabilities so that the shoes will be able to charge whenever they walk.
The ShiftWear sneakers are designed to pair with mobile devices running the companion app which will let users browse, download, as well as add program designs for the shoes. It’s available on iOS, Android and Windows. You can also create your own art for your personal use or offer it up to the marketplace for others to purchase.

What makes these sneakers awesome is that they are waterproof and machine washable. There are still no plans for the soles to be replaceable but, the shoes will be coated with Kevlar fiber for long lasting wear.
Their website states, “Our top priority has always been to deliver a product which provides the functionality we presented when we set about this journey . We’ve had to make some compromises to the design to ensure that our product is both fully functional and beautiful. This prototype demonstrates the capability of our technology and marks our entry into a brand new marketplace; it’s important to remember that no-one has ever done this before.”
They are currently accepting pre-orders, and their estimated start of production is by the end of 2017.
