Iran has launched new projects in the Gulf that would produce around 150 million cubic meters of gas per day. The gas would come from the world’s largest natural gas field that Iran shares with Qatar.

President Hassan Rouhani has inaugurated five new projects, together with other officials such as the oil minister Bijan Zanganeh. These projects may help the country have equal footing with Qatar in using its offshore gas field, however, the President did not give any timeline.

Aside from the five new projects, the country has launched four petrochemical projects that will produce two million tonnes worth $2 billion annually, according to state media.

As for Qatar, it has lifted its self-imposed ban on the joint field development since it expected an expected rise in competition.
