This Brit Built a Real Flying Iron Man Suit Powered by Jet Engines

To say that this Iron Man suit is amazing is an understatement!

There have been many attempts to make the real Iron Man suit. And the one made by Richard Browning, an entrepreneur and former royal marine reservist from the UK, just made it to the list.

Richard built what he calls as the Daedalus, which is indeed reminiscent of the suit worn by Iron Man in the movies. It flies thanks to the six gas turbine engines, four of which are mounted in the arm and two in the hips.

The jet engines have so far allowed Richard to be lifted a couple of meters above the ground, but its maker said that the system will ultimately be able to fly at several hundred miles per hour, and at thousands of feet.

It is not an ordinary Iron Man suit: Daedalus is enabled with Wi-Fi and included with a Heads-Up Display (HUD) made from Sony SmartEyeglass, which are the key systems for safety and performance including fuel levels and engine operation.

Not only that, the suit also has live data streaming for the ground monitoring and the HUD system.

For one year, Richard developed Daedalus which involved relentless testing, phased flights, and system evolution. He tried using the suit in fields, factories, and empty car parks.

Now a patent is being filed after his startup called Gravity got funding which amounts to thousands of pounds. He promised that the world’s first human propulsion flight will be complete within the next 12 months.

“Daedalus is simply the beginning of a core technology that has endless potential in aviation, commercial and entertainment applications,” Richard said.

“We’ve already had a few comparisons to Tony Stark, but this is real-world aeronautical innovation. We are serious about building a world-changing technology business.”
