Acer has launched their newest product called the “Acer Air Monitor”. It’s a smart device that detects air quality in real time and lets you monitor several air quality indicators with its accompanying phone app.
The Air monitor uses a wide variety of sensors to track six air quality indicators, namely TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds), carbon dioxide, PM2.5, PM10, temperature, and humidity. You can view the data on the phone app, and you can set it so that it will send you notifications whenever one of the indicators reach a predefined threshold. It also has LED lights that change color according to the air quality, along with a sensor that checks for ambient light and turns the LED off when you turn the lights off to go to sleep.

It’s also IFTTT integrated, allowing you to send actions to the device whenever the air quality changes. For example, you can set it so that the Air Monitor will blow at full speed and power if the air quality significantly crosses above a certain threshold for air quality. The device will be showcased at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) trade show, and the product will launch in Q2 of 2017 with prices and availability varying from region to region.
When asked to comment on the sidelines of their launch, Wayne Ma, General Manager of IoB, Acer Cloud Technology (Taiwan) Inc., said “In realization of our vision of the IoB (Internet of Beings), an IoT based on intelligence, we’re excited to introduce the Acer Air Monitor to the market.” He further added, “Research from the US and EU [Europe] both show that people on average spend about 90% of their time indoors; at home, at work, and everywhere in between, and we would like to empower people with actionable information to make better life choices.”
