All mass produced products that we see everyday are produced in manufacturing plants all over the world. The manufacturing industry, where thousands employees work together to create their company’s products, is what makes the world economy alive.

We present to you seven of the world’s largest manufacturing plants, that create different products like planes, batteries, cars and even lingerie!

Volkswagen Wolfsburg Plant, Germany

This is the largest automobile manufacturing plant in the world and it is 70 million square feet large. The plant is found in Wolsburg, Germany, where they build 3,800 Volkswagen vehicles per day. That’s around 815,000 vehicles in a year–that’s in 2015. Even just the factory halls take up a surface area of nearly 1 square mile–that’s enough to accommodate the Principality of Monaco.

Hyundai Motor Company Ulsan Factory, South Korea

This factory is 54 million square foot Ulsan Factory in South Korea to the engine and transmission production. The 14 different Hyundai models are manufactured in this five-building plant. This plant can bring out a vehicle every 12 seconds. It was originally opened in 1968 and has expanded ever since. Currently it has 34,000 employees work on site. This facility also has its own sewage treatment plant and cargo ship pier.

Tesla Gigafactory, Nevada

Tesla’s brand-new Gigafactory stands outside of Sparks, Nevada. They just began battery cell production on January 4, 2017. By the year 2018, the factory will reach a size of 13 million square feet. They are cooperating with Panasonic, and are planning to achieve net zero energy as they continue to automate the battery-making process.

Boeing Factory, Washington

Building airplanes need an enormous amount of space. This factory is the world’s largest building in terms of volume at 4.2 million square feet. It was based in Everett, Washington and covered nearly 100 acres and is in charge of building the 747, 767,777, and 787. The facility isn’t just for manufacturing, though. It comes with a museum, a theater, a store, and a whopping 19 restaurants. Built in 1966, it included 2.33 miles of tunnels for pedestrians situated underground. It also has its own railway spur and over 1,000 bicycles for people to get around the plant.

Belvidere Assembly Plant, Illinois

The title of being the second-largest manufacturing facility in Illinois once belonged to Mitsubishi Motors North America. They’re still one of the largest in the world measuring 2.3 million square feet. Sadly, production has already ended in 2015, closing the doors of Normal, Illinois, making the Belvidere Assembly Plant owned by Chrysler the only car production factory in Illinois. The Belvidere plant measured 3.5 million square feet and handled the assembly of the Jeep Compass & Patriot, along with the Dodge Dart. It was operated by about 780 robots which spanned over 280 acres.

Jean-Luc Legardére Plant, France

The Jean-Luc Legardére Plant is located in Toulouse-Blagnac, France and is in charge of manufacturing the Airbus A380. Although the parts were crafted all across Europe, this facility handles every process of putting the plane together, and finally testing it out in the 1.3 million square foot factory which has 49 acres of runway just outside the place.

Lauma Fabrics, Latvia

The Latvia-based plant measures 1.2 million square feet and may be the largest manufacturing plant when it comes to product size to workplace ratio. This is because it’s owned by Lauma Fabrics, which only make lace, ribbons, and lingerie fabric. The factory was constructed in 1965, which spans 1,600 feet in width and 738 feet in length in manufacturing floor area.
