Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Visit the Louvre Abu Dhabi

They were given a glimpse of what the museum has to offer once it opens this coming November 11.


While it may not be open to the public yet, this world class museum has opened its doors to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

They were given a glimpse of what the museum has to offer once it opens this coming November 11. This includes several displays of treasures, ancient statue of the Sphinx, fragments of a frieze detailing the Surah Al Hash from the Quran and its “rain of light”, which was created by its vast dome made of metal stars. The museum will also be featuring the bust of Alexander the Great, which is on loan from the Louvre Museum in Paris. Other artworks from several French cultural institutions such as the Musée d’Orsay and the Centre Pompidou were also on loan for the museum’s exhibit.

Expect to see 620 works of art to be on display when it opens.

Aside from seeing the exhibits, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed also met some of the people who have worked on this special project since 2013.

One of the guests who got to enjoy this private tour was the 15-year-old winner of the Genes in Space competition, Alia Al Mansoori. Officials who welcomed them included Mohamed Al Mubarak, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and Saif Ghobash, Director General of TCA Abu Dhabi.

In a LinkedIn post, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid shares, “Today I visited the Louvre Abu Dhabi with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed; the new museum stands as both a cultural and architectural triumph. The silver dome arcing over the 55-building museum housing some of the world’s greatest art is a remarkable architectural achievement. The Louvre Abu Dhabi is a floating museum complex. The world’s newest hub for culture and the arts, it overlooks our beautiful capital city.”

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed have also met to discuss several issues which focus on improving the UAE community. The meeting was also attended by  Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai,Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, Sheikh Dhiyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and a number of Sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.

The meeting took place at the Al Bahr Palace last Monday, September 11. One of the main topics they discussed was about the need to harness every potential source available to achieve the UAE vision 2021.
